Project Description

Staffordshire Moorlands

a country garden for three generations

This extensive garden occupies a west facing slope rising steeply up from the house.  There are stunning views across the Staffordshire countryside.

The clients had recently retired. They wanted to grow fruit and vegetables, as well as having more useful space for the grandchildren to play.  More than half the area is a woodland garden with winding paths and a rustic gazebo which is positioned to give a view framed by trees across the valley.  A new patio with a formal pool gives a sheltered area outside the conservatory.  Steps and paths lead up through a colourful border to an elliptical level lawn backed by a beech hedge.  More steps lead up to the next level with another lawn and sloping kitchen garden and secret garden.

What the client has to say

“Now after enjoying a summer of abundant colour from our new plants we still get a pleasurable glow every morning looking out at the garden.  The local wildlife has begun to enjoy regular visits as well, we have seen many more butterflies and birds coming to take advantage of the food supply now available. We are looking forward to an expected wonderful display of spring bulbs next year and watching the garden develop in the years to come.”
