This property had some beautiful examples of trees and shrubs, however some had to be removed in order to let in light and allow space for other planting.
The clients felt that there were too many evergreens and not enough summer colour. Some trees were removed. Rhododendrons and a huge magnolia were pruned, thinned and crown lifted. Summer flowering herbaceous plants were planted in amongst the shrubs. The water-table is high, in fact a stream runs under the front garden. At the back the lawn was raised and levelled to form a ha-ha, taking in the views of open country beyond. A wild flowers seed mix was sown into the ha-ha ditch and bank. A paling fenced kitchen garden has raised beds. Herbaceous borders bring in summer colour.
